- Steve Balbi - Matthew Barber (Canada) - Nicholas Roy - Asa Broomhall
The Songwriters Circle Tour brings in four premier singer-songwriters to play solo, altogether on the one stage, taking in turns to perform their signature songs, chatting about all things artistic and the process of songwriting along the way with the audience. The concept originated from the east coast of Canada and IS now a feature event at the East Coast Music Awards (ECMA’s).
The first for Australia will see Steve Balbi, Matthew Barber (Canada), Nicholas Roy and Asa Broomhall take the stage for an intimate evening sharing tales about their craft and the influences behind their work. Of course, their musical gifts will also be on display throughout the night.
Steve Balbi has transformed from one of Australia’s leading songwriters, first with Noiseworks, followed by Electric Hippies, to become a dynamic solo performer. His compelling music and unique style transcends generations. After playing sell-out concerts, touring the world and receiving numerous awards including two ARIA Double Platinum Records and three ARIA Gold Records, Steve emerged from the darker side of rock ‘n’ roll with an energy and authenticity that has created an underground swell amongst new fans. Steve connects with his audience through his genuine, expressive and powerful performances that leave fans, new and old, truly captivated. Steve is currently recording a new album which is due for release early in 2013.
Matthew Barber, who hails from Toronto is visiting Australia for the fourth time. His latest offering is a self-produced collection of songs that he recorded in his ramshackle basement studio. By playing all the instruments as well as handling the recording and mixing duties, Barber has made somewhat of a return to his roots. Barber has become a seasoned songwriter and performer with five albums, numerous tours across Canada and around the world, a handful of record deals, a Juno nomination and an award-winning musical to his credit. His self-titled new album is available now through ABC Music.
Australia's own Rock/Roots larrikin, Asa Broomhall is about to give us his fifth independent album which was recorded in an iconic old guitar shop in Brisbane. On stage, Asa's powerful guitar driven songs and dynamic live show has taken him from clubs and festivals all over Australia (Woodford Folk Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival, Blues on Broadbeach, Gympie Muster, Mullum Music Festival, Caloundra Music Festival, Australian Blues Festival, Noosa Festival of Surfing and more....) to touring with national and international artists (including Diesel , Hoodoo Gurus, Jeff Martin, Ian Moss, Chris Whitley, Ash Grunwald, Chris Smither, Evermore, Mark Seymour, Kelly Joe Phelps, Pete Murray and more...) and regularly performing in the UK, USA and Canada. And with five independent and self-produced releases and 12 years of shows under his belt, Asa's dedication to his music and his live show is obvious.
After a very busy 2010/2011, Nicholas Roy has been writing and recording new songs for his upcoming EP release, with producer Jaime Jimenez. 2010 saw Nicholas’ song “It’s All My Fault”, become a favourite around the country, with high rotation airplay on triple j, ABC DIG Music and community stations. The success on radio enabled him to tour extensively, with the likes of The Audreys, The Whitlams, Lowrider, Brendan Maclean and Matt Corby, earning him a whole swag of new fans. 2011 saw him release his self titled EP which features guest musicians Sam Cope from Blue King Brown, David Williams (Augie March) and Kris Schoroeder (The Basics).

- Songwriters Circle East Coast Tour
- 8:00 pm
-
Spirit Bar and Lounge, Traralgon, VIC, Australia
(MAP)
- The Songwriters Circle Tour brings in four premier singer-songwriters to play solo, altogether on the one stage, taking in turns to perform their signature songs, chatting about all things artistic and the process of songwriting along the way with the audience.
